About Alison Watt Jackson
|
Alison & Jonathan the fruit bat |
Alison Watt Jackson has lived near the sea on the central coast of California for the past fourteen years and has been silk painting for the past three years. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree Cum Laude from Plymouth State University and her Master’s degree as a physician assistant from Rutger’s University. She is an artist, writer, poet, photographer, vegetarian, animal volunteer, certified massage therapist, intuitive, and clinician.
A driving force behind AWJ’s creations includes philanthropy, and each year AWJ donates thousands of dollars of art proceeds to charitable causes including The Marine Mammal Center, The Jane Goodall Foundation, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of America, The Breast Cancer Fund, The Economic Opportunity Commission of San Luis Obispo, San Luis Obispo Surf Rider Foundation, and The Environmental Center of San Luis Obispo to name a few.
AWJ has been creating all her life. “A brush, a pen, a camera, a keyboard, my hands; these are my tools. Art is a way of life, it just depends on the moment and how I feel like expressing myself.”
Most typically, AWJ’s art works are all about COLOR. In addition to being a silk painter, Alison also creates with acrylics, watercolors, pastels, pencils, and many other multimedium. Her abstract colorful silk paintings balance design and shape while using familiar eye catching symbols.
AWJ continuously finds herself drawn to painting ocean themed pieces - whether a furry sea otter, a gigantic turtle, or a silk scarf resembling a gentle tide - ”painting what you love in life is like breathing itself.”
A published medical writer, AWJ has written "Improving Health Care for the Homeless", and "There but for the Grace". She has appeared as a guest at the San Luis Obispo Poetry Festival. Alison's healing memoir "Of Water and Creatures" was written and published in 2004.
Of Water and Creatures
Whether swimming with a pod of dolphin, having a close encounter with a seal, or sharing a soft chair with a purring cat, "Of Water and Creatures" is full of rich, poetic imagery that reminds us how deeply animal and nature experiences affect our lives.
With influences such as Jane Goodall, Gareth Patterson, and Rita Reynolds, this delightfully refreshing memoir explores the parallels between humans, animals, and the world we share.
“A charming and thought-provoking memoir of someone who is clearly imbued with a deep love for nature. This is an inspiring book which demonstrates in a gentle way how the creatures around us can teach us so much.”—Gareth Patterson, the “Lion Man of Africa,” author of To Walk with Lions. |

Alison is also currently working on several children's storybooks that educate and nurture their innate love of nature and animals recognizing that children are the future caretakers of our planet and all of it’s inhabitants.
Whether far or near, Alison’s hope is that by sharing this web site, her creations will be enjoyed throughout the world.
